Dental aesthetic surgery. What is it?

Cosmetic dental surgery refers to a series of surgical procedures that are performed to improve the appearance of the teeth and mouth. These procedures are performed by a gum specialist and can address a variety of cosmetic and functional problems in the mouth.

One of the most common cosmetic dental surgery procedures is the correction of the gummy smile. A gummy smile occurs when the gum covers too much of the tooth, making the teeth appear shorter and the smile less attractive. The periodontist can perform a gingivectomy to trim the gum and expose more of the tooth, resulting in a more attractive smile.

Another common procedure is lengthening or elongation of the dental crown. This is performed when the tooth has worn down or broken, leaving a small portion of the tooth exposed. The dental surgeon may add a layer of dental material to the top of the tooth to extend the crown and improve the appearance of the smile.

Orthognathic surgery is a procedure used to correct bite and tooth alignment problems. This procedure is performed in cases where conventional orthodontic treatments have failed to correct the problems. During orthognathic surgery, the dental surgeon cuts and realigns the bones of the jaw and face to improve the bite and facial appearance. In either case, this is performed by a maxillofacial surgeon.

Three visits and a few weeks of at-home overnight treatment will usually be sufficient to achieve a memorable result.
